North Tarrant Parkway Construction
April 9, 2010 Groundbreaking Video
The widening of North Tarrant Parkway between Davis Boulevard and Whitley Road began in April 2010. The work is being performed by L.H. Lacy Construction. Two-way travel lanes will be maintained in the corridor throughout construction, which is expected to take approximately 18 month to complete.
This long awaited project will reconstruct and widen North Tarrant
Parkway from Davis Boulevard in North Richland Hills to Whitley Road in
Keller. In North Richland Hills, the roadway will be widened to three
lanes in each direction. Improvements will also be made to the intersection
of North Tarrant Parkway and Smithfield Road. Landscaped medians, six-foot
sidewalks, benches, trash receptacles and light fixtures will also be added.
The section of roadway that is in Keller will be constructed to that City’s
specifications. Once completed, this stretch of roadway will be very similar
to North Tarrant Parkway between Davis Boulevard and Precinct Line Road,
resulting in improved traffic flow and improved traffic safety for the
region.
This project is being funded by the City of North Richland Hills, the City of
Keller and Tarrant County, with the county covering approximately 65%. The
project was originally projected to cost $22 million and is benefiting from some
of the lowest construction prices in years with the construction bids coming in
at $14.7 million.
